Troubleshooting “We’ve Stopped Receiving Events” Alerts

If you see a red bar at the top of your Advertiser dashboard stating “We’ve stopped receiving events”, it doesn’t always mean something is broken. This guide will walk you through how to:

  • Determine whether the alert is a false alarm or a real problem
  • Identify if and why events actually stopped
  • Take the right next steps based on your setup

Step 1: Narrow Down to the Affected Event
  1. Go to your Tag Setup tab (left hand side)
  1. Check the red alert on the bottom of the page and find out which event you need to investigate. Locate the alert and note which event it references (e.g., signup, purchase etc.).

  1. On the left-hand side of the event graph, deselect all events except the one mentioned in the alert.

This lets you isolate and focus on trends for just that specific event.

Step 2: Check the Timeline

Review the dates called out in the alert. Hover over the event graph for those specific dates and observe:

  • Were events still coming in during that time?
  • Did the event volume drop to zero after those dates—or not at all?

If the event counts didn’t actually stop or the drop doesn’t match the dates mentioned or if there are many days where the event count drops to zero, the alert is likely a false alarm.

You can mute the alert by clicking the 🔇 icon next to the alert on the banner.

Step 3: Confirm Tag Setup

In the Tag Setup tab:

  • Check if the affected tag is listed and firing.
  • Review whether the tag source is Podscribe Pixel, Shopify, or Google Tag Manager.
  • If it's not firing correctly, it may need to be reimplemented or the trigger adjusted.

Common False Alarm Triggers

  • A change in site structure (e.g., moving to a headerless site).
  • Events still arriving but from a different source or tag.
  • Tag firing but on an invalid or staging domain

What to do if the Alert is Real?

If you confirm a real drop in events:

  • Review any recent site or tag changes (e.g., migration to Shopify).
  • Reinstall or reconfigure the tag via Google Tag Manager or your Shopify integration.
  • Wait 2–3 days and recheck the Overview tab in your Podscribe dashboard for the latest data.

Shopify Setup

  • Our Shopify App only supports purchase and view events
  • For other events like signup or lead, implement the JavaScript tags
  • If you're using both GTM and Shopify, make sure tags don’t overlap (thus sending Podscribe duplicates)

Google Tag Manager Setup

  • Check that the correct tags exist for all key events
  • Make sure the triggers still fire on the right pages
  • Test live (not just preview mode) to confirm firing

Pro Tip

Use the URL tab in Podscribe’s Tag Setup to ensure events are firing on real domains vs staging.
